Where to find work in uncertain times? For a lot of us side gigs are now our main income. Where do you find extra work, even if it’s just a few hours a week?
If you happen to be familiar with micro gigs, you’ve likely heard from places like Fiverr, Amazon Micro Turk, Appen, and Clickworker…and there are many more. The small gigs don’t pay much, but if you have some down time it’s an option. Also, considering the current stay-at-home milieu, places like Instacart need people locally, as do grocery stores and delivery for restaurants that are still running.
Another task you can do for extra income is website evaluations – again, they don’t pay much, but it can be enjoyable for some people, and it can fill some of your free time. Examples are UserFeel, TryMyUI, and UserTesting. Appen and The Smart Crowd also offer this type of work in addition to ad evaluations and translation/transcription.
Some people love taking surveys, so that’s an option, or you can sign up with services like TaskRabbit, though right now you may have to pick and choose jobs without much contact….ditto with dog walking for Rover.
In case you don’t really need the income, you can volunteer for numerous places, or try education! There are so many free courses available right now…or teenagers might want to work through FreeCodeCamp.
Additionally there are numerous job boards online for freelancers or others in case you are looking for that more full time position: Glassdoor, Indeed, Upwork, Freelancer, Toptal, and the list goes on.
I have worked for Appen as a social media evaluator and found it enjoyable. I would definitely do that again.
As always, let me know what worked for you, and PLEASE do your homework before signing up!
